100 Years of the Indianapolis 500
This Memorial Day weekend marks the 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500. A Century ago, in 1911, a group of brave men gathered their wooden wheeled race cars to begin a battle that would rage on for 100 years. The current event hardly seems like the same race as its early years, but the Indianapolis 500 has had to change, evolve, and advance like every other industry.
There aren’t that many events that stick around every year for 100 years. Take some time to watch these clips, one from each Decade, and think about what a Century has meant to the Indy 500. If you could go back to any year to watch the race in person, which would it be? Personally, I’m stuck trying to decide between the 30′s and the 60′s.
