    Vintage Boardtrack Motorcycle Racing

Wow. I hadn't seen this one yet. That's an awesome piece of footage. It's a shame we don't have any board tracks around anymore.. It would be a feat to see some real period board track racers racing around one.

I used to know a guy with a Brooklands Rudge. Essentially a board racer.

Single cylinder no clutch no brakes. Man they had balls!

He rode it from Darwin too Canberra (about 2,000 miles) in 1988 as part of our Bicentenial Celbrations.

He said it did 60mph flat out.

To start it he would sit astride it and get it moving then close the decompression valve and it would fire and move off. No gear changes (no gear box) and to stop it you killed the spark.

Those old guys were way tougher than us.

You know, one of these would be pretty easy to build, but the motor would never look right if used something modern. I do like the idea of no clutch and a roll start. Sounds fun . Would be cool to cruise around the neighborhood in one, but a small displacement v-twin would probably cost a small fortune.
