Thread: Top Gear USA

I finally saw it today (second episode) and it's much better than I thought it was going to be. As much as I love the BBC version, don't forget that the British hosts tend to be pretty corny and overly dramatic at times. I don't care for the two "comic relief" hosts, though. They're trying too hard to be funny (and not succeeding).

Dude....you blunder in here and post some random thing that's totally out of line with everything else on this thread and then expect a warm welcome?

Yeah....its just the internet ....but the majority of folks on here are also on another VERY WELL KNOWN hot rod forum.....and have been for years....but still have the decency to introduce themselves on here before stomping in with both feet.

Man.....chill out and tell us all about yourself .....and maybe make some sort of positive remarks to back up your point of view .....

First off i was a member here bofore you were, I did not blunder anything, i simply stated that i like the show and added my opinoin that i think it will be on the air for a long time. then i get personaly attacked by some guy that has only contributed a couple of posts.

I have also been on the hamb for a couple of years under the same name 8-track. There is no reason to jump all over my shit because i made a positive comment about something you were trying to tear down, you are the one who needs to chill out and make things more positive here instead of driving people away from this site with your personal attacks.

Hey guys, let's keep this thread on topic. 8track isn't one of the Top Gear hosts, lol. I know him personally and am glad he's here.

Did anyone see episode 3? I missed it (on the road to Santa Rosa). My hopes is that the show improves as time goes on and the hosts get more experienced and comfortable. Based on episodes 1 & 2, i'm not thrilled...but I also haven't given up yet. The hosts don't seem experienced enough with cars. With the BBC Top Gear, the hosts give the impression that they could possibly own one of the cars they're testing. They also have tastes that have been developed through experience. The US Top Gear hosts just deliver with a younger and less sophisticated direction. Other than Tanners driving skills, they seem like any average guy who got to drive a nice car for the first time...but haven't really driven/experienced enough cars to host a show like this. They're a bit vanilla for me so far. A Leno type is what is missing for me... Confident, knows how to drive, distinct personality, knows what he likes and understands what he should expect from exotic cars(and all cars). They don't all have to be like that, just one of them.
Like I said, I haven't given up. I'd love to see it improve and grow up to be what I was hoping for.
Hope I'm making sense, we've been up for over 24 hours on the road.

I know its not hitting the mark when I switched the tube to an episode of "My Classic Car"...

Feel like if I was in a bar with these guys we would be talking about The Sopranos, Moms fried chicken and mens hair products...

I agree! The show is too tightly scripted. At least on the BBC version it looks like their ad libbing most of it even if their not. I think this is what's missing for me. That and, as mentioned before, there's really only one "car" guy in the group. Why would you have the other two be automotive dummies? On a car show nonetheless.....
