    Living the Dream

We all know the classic story of 'the one that got away'. In fact, most of us have lived it. DOGFIGHT member http://ahref target="_blank">Anderson posted the tale about his 2001 Mustang Bullitt that got away and best of all, how he got it back. M... Read the rest of this article on DOGFIGHT!

ONE CAR?!? That question is too hard...could I have four choices maybe?

OK, I'll play. If I had to choose, it would probably be my 70 Corvette. Both top roadster , 350hp 350 w/M22 , 3.55 posi and F41/FE7. Not that I cared too much at the time, but it was a numbers match car... Kept it a long time, rebuilt everything [fairly mild engine, stock tranny and diff, but not a piece of rubber left in the underside - the car looked like an illustration from a Guldstrand and Greenwood catalog underneath] got it just about where I wanted it...and sold it to go racing. Which we see how far THAT got me...

Ok, now this is ridiculous! This thread should have a thousand replies...so everybody here either kept their favourite car and never sold it, or they don't care about any of the stuff they've owned in the past?!? Come on guys and gals...
I had a bit of a time narrowing it down to one, so I'll throw out the other 3 contenders to try and stir things up.
First car - 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner ; 1982 Alfa Romeo GTV6 and my 72 Lotus Elan +2S130. And I probably shoulda kept my 55 Chevy...and the 89 Chevy 4x4 pickup. and the 63 Chevy pickup. and....

Well if you've been to my place you know I rarely let a car go.. kind of a bad habit, but the only one I regret was my '67 GTO. not a matching number car, but a real GTO w/ 4spd.

Dr. John.. I still have my '70 vette, 370hp, M21, 4:11 matching number... I'd sell it to you but then I'd have to post another regret.

Aaahhhh, I dont reckon a little regret ever hurt anyone too badly there Mr Revhead... besides, if you sold it to me, then you'd have more to post about!

Okay, I'll play.....The only car I truly regret selling (out of a shit-ton I've owned) is my '72 BMWtii. I bought it new as a present to myself in June of '72, both for surviving a combat tour in S.E. Asia, and separating from the U.S.A.F. This was way before every Tom, Dick & Harry, school teacher and yuppy boy wonder even knew that a BMW was a car.... Thing was a little stealth rocket ship, and I had waaaay too much fun with it....Sold it to go racing with my first dragster.

Well we know mine, and of course I got my replacement.

But I also wish i had my first car back, a '64 El Camino. Iit was a total piece of shit...rusty, full of bondo, riveted floorboards, etc. But it was still a lot of fun. I spray painted some red flames on it on the slab for my dad's new garage, turned the whole slab pink for a while. After I got my Olds we parted the elky out and cut the rest up. RIP!

There's a lot more than just one. I know that we'd all like to keep 'em all. But most of us can't. Life usually dictates what you can and can't keep.

This was only the second and last new car I've ever purchased. Being the consummate tinkerer that I am, I couldn't leave it alone. Lord knows it was more than I could handle in stock trim. First change was a Pro 5.0 shifter. Then came MAC equal length shorty headers and their complete exhaust system. Let's see what was next, oh yeah, a rear gear change, 3.08 to 3.55. Slowed it a bit on the highway, but much more fun around town. And then there was a Pro M MAF. Of course, the timing trick was done, bumped to 14 degrees. I had the Global West sub-chassis ties, but had not installed them when I had to sell the car. Heavy Sigh! I miss it!
