Too Fast To Race: Group B Rally Supercars

How about a race across Europe in an 80's Supercar? Group B started in 1981 and only lasted 5 years, but it is regarded by many as the greatest era of Rally Racing. These were the Formula 1 cars of this motor-sport niche. Even if Rally Racing isn't... Read the rest of this article on DOGFIGHT!

Rallycross was awesome, I used to work for the 3 time European Champion Keith Ripp in the days just before the Group B cars got big....When there were 900bhp IMSA engined BMW 4x4's & 1100+ Porsche's...and 300bhp BDX powered Ford Fiesta's

The Group B years were amazing...I spent many a weekend at Lydden & Brands watching Martin Schanche, Will Gollop & John Welch tearing it up.

    Happy days.

This was the 1st incarnation of the Fiesta, when it was a mere 1600cc BDA with only 200bhp

Thanks for finding those films. I was involved in rallys in the northwest for several years, and do recall seeing the few B series of cars run through the forest stages in Washington. The sounds are just too much to ever forget, especially at night!

I remember watching an old skate video that had loads of B series crashes that blew my mind. I heard they were nicknamed the "killer b's" as a result of high speed roll overs resulting in the life loss of spectators. Those cars looked like bricks but were hella modified! Get one, put it on the street...lol

Whats amazing is that as staggeringly fast and spectacular as the Group B cars were for their time, todays modern WRC cars are actually faster.
