On boring days I drive a Mercedes ML320, the wife drives her SLK55 and the boys drive a VW Polo.

On the non boring days I drive my Range Rover. 450HP supercharged Lexus 4litre V8.

This makes me smile everytime I start it up. Fuel economy is a worry, way less the 10mpg!

I'm thinking of replacing the Lexus with an LS3 (like my current project) as I can get the same power and 3 times the economy out of it and it'll run for 100,000miles whereas the Lexus may last 5,000miles.

They started making these around 1990.

    Mine is a 1994 model.

It's a glass body on a Range Rover chassis.

This particular car won the National Division of Australian Safari in 1995. The event was longer and tougher than the Paris-Dakar that year.

    English body imported into Australia.

There are around 150 of these in the world.

They shave around 400lbs off a standard Rangie and will go almost anywhere.

This one has the Rover chassis, supercharged Lexus engine, Nissan Patrol 5 speed and tranfer plus Patrol axles hanging off Rover suspension.

I'm looking at swapping the Lexus out for an LS3.

Even truck drivers gove way to this.

    100% fun!

Sorry it's not inspirational, but you asked...
(Beware the maintenance costs of used BMWs and Mercedes. Insist on a detailed ownership and maintenance history)

    And this happened yesterday:

I roadtrip, autoX and run DE's in this '93LE and it just keeps going.
    Best $1600 i have spent.

Zuffen - That thing is crazy looking. I've never heard of those/ see one before, looks like fun!

Pwschuh- Has any of the drive train been rebuilt or is that 300K miles on stock untouched motor, trans, etc? Congrats either way... that's awesome.

    John, thanks.

Engine internals are all original: head has never been off. Front main seal is dripping oil but I'll get that replaced next time the timing belt is done. Engine externals: on my third alternator; motor mounts were shot by 250K and I replaced them; put all new EGR valves and hoses to clear a check engine light; radiator replaced once; A/C still works well if I hit it with a recharge can every 18 months.

5 Speed is original but 2nd gear synchro is starting to go. I can easily beat it on a fast 1-2 shift but in normal driving it's fine.

Believe it or not, exhaust system is all original…

2001 Olds Alero, but the roads are thawing out, get to drag the Model A out soon (hoping this weekend , Ma nature's call).

I intend to drive the Jimmy a lot, once it's road worthy.
